humility

Many people become so consumed with receiving recognition for their accomplishments that they lose sight of what’s truly important. We all set goals and strive to be a better person. The problem arises when we become obsessed with winning and being the best at everything. You should always live life to your fullest potential because you owe it to yourself, not because of the award you’ll receive or the public praise. All of the great humanitarians of the world like Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King Jr., and Nelson Mandela did not set out to become celebrities. They wanted to make the world a better place by helping the needy and fighting for the rights of everyone.  If you asked them what their greatest achievements were they wouldn’t say winning an award, being on television, or becoming President, they would say making the world a better place by being a voice for the voiceless.

I implore you to not relish in your successes. Use your abilities to help others make their dreams come true because it is far more rewarding. The world is a big enough for everyone to get a piece of the pie. Don’t feel threatened by the achievements of others. Allow them to motivate you. When you rise to the top, don’t let it go to your head. Be thankful for the progress you’ve made and never forget the ones that helped you along the way.
